Assad expects clear steps from Geneva Conference in fight against terrorism

YEREVAN, JANUARY 20, ARMENPRESS. Syria expects clear results from the Geneva Conference with regard to the fight against terrorism. “Armenpress” reports citing Syrian SANA agency that the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad stated it at the course of the interview with France Press agency adding that in particular, it needs to put pressure on countries that are exporting terrorism, - by sending terrorists, money and weapons to terrorist organizations, - especially Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and of course the Western countries that provide political cover for these terrorist organizations. President Assad noted that three years on they can safely say that the Syrian people have won. The other phase of the battle is the fight against terrorism, which they are living on a daily basis and can't talk about victory before they eliminate the terrorists. “What we can say is that we are making progress and moving forward. This doesn't mean that victory is near at hand; these kinds of battles are complicated, difficult and they need a lot of time,” Bashar al-Assad said.

As a response to the question whether is it likely that Bashar al-Assad will be a candidate for the presidency, he answered that   this depends on two things: it depends on personal aspirations or a personal decision, on the one hand, and on public opinion in Syria, on the other. Assad added that if in that time, there is public desire and a public opinion in favor of his candidacy; he will not hesitate for a second to run for election.
