"Ararat 73" – 40 years after: Arkadi Andreasyan

"Ararat 73" – 40 years after: Arkadi Andreasyan

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13, ARMENPRESS. The Olympic gold is considered to be the greatest achievement in the world of sports. There have been 13 Olympic champions in the history of the Armenian sport, notwithstanding there is a number of other names, who have also left a golden page in the history of the Armenian sport. "Armenpress" opens that "golden page" in the history book of the Armenian sport. Both the heroes and witnesses of the heroic triumph of "Ararat 73" tell new details about the club's achievements.

Arkady Andreasyan was born on 11 August 1947. He played for Ararat Yerevan in 1973 when Ararat won the Soviet Championship. Andreasyan also won a bronze medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics for the USSR. Arkady is the master of sport and the honoured manager of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (1982). He played in 142 matches and scored 32 goals.

- 40 years has passed now. How fresh are Your memories?

- It was not yesterday, but the time passed very quickly. I cannot even believe that it has been 40 years ago. I still have fresh and bright memories, as if it happened yesterday. It's great that people still remembers "Ararat" of the 70s, and in my opinion they will never forget it. Even people at the age of 20 or 30, who were not born at that time, talk about "Ararat" so proudly, as if they have seen the matches with their own eyes. I am glad to be one of the players, who have given this joy to the people.

- In those days one could hear "Ararat, hup tur" phrase frequently enough. What do you feel today, when people use the same phrase to encourage our national team?

- The people wanted us nothing, but to win. It was that very phrases that encouraged us to move ahead. We spontaneously raised the tempo of the game and kept pressing the opponent. Those words gave strength to us. When I hear those words today, I want our young footballers to grant the same joy to the people. No doubt, that will happen one day.

I don’t miss them, but I recall them frequently enough. (THE FULL VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
