YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS: Armenia's Presidential candidate, "National Self-Determination" party chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan gave preference to maintenance of stable situation in the country. Hayrikyan took back his application from the Constitutional Court (CC).  Hayrikyan had a briefing with the reporters on February 12.

''Despite I was optimistic I was withdrawn from the campaign; yet do not want to make a tragedy of it. I guess the emotions pertain to Constitutional Court justified as I have not come up with the comments. I have told I shall turn to CC not excluding the fact I can take back the application'' Armenpress reports.''Unknown forces were trying to divert us from the path''.

Dwelling on an open letter and Andrias Ghukasyan hunger strike Hayrikyan stated if he postponed the elections he would sacrifice Andrias health condition, as he has repeatedly noted he would keep to the strike till the day of elections. Presidential candidate Hayrikyan urged the reporters not to dwell on oppositional candidate Hrant Bagratyan, stating the candidate has betrayed his co partisans, does not ask for Levon Ter-Petrosyan's opinion about his candidature.

Presidential candidate, leader of union for "National Self-Determination" Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot around 11:30 PM, January 31 in Tpagrichner Street, Kentron district of Yerevan. Hayrikyan got a gunshot wound to shoulders' area and has already been operated on in "St. Grigor Lusavorich" medical center.   

Criminal case under article 34-305 of Armenian Criminal Code has been already initiated over the assassination attempt against presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan. Preliminary investigation of the criminal case is implemented by joint investigation group of National Security Service and Armenian Police, led by head of the investigation department of NSS, Colonel Mnatsakan Marukyan.
