Paruyr Hayrikyan does not postpone elections/completed/

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS: Armenia's Presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan lately subjected to assassination attempt is not going to apply to the Constitutional Court to postpone the elections for two weeks. Hayrikyan's attorney Levon Baghdasaryan came forth in the briefing with the journalists on February 5.

As Armenpress reports, Hayrikyan's pre- election headquarter head Manya Ayvazyan, businessman, public figure Karo Yeghnukyan were also present at the press conference.''We rule out the fact of new elections. Reportedly the criminal was seeking to kill Paruyr Hayrikyan and announce new date of elections, thus taking into consideration those arguments we do not wish them to reach their goal. Our aim is to hinder their plans. People are speculating the fact Hayrikyan was a lucky and as if Presidential candidate benefited from the accident'' international relations responsible Karo Yeghnukyan noted.

Paruyr Hayrikyan also had a talk with the reporters. ''I do not wish to be guided by criminals' will. I am conscious this was a murder attempt. Those who call it not an assassination I wish never encounter with such a case. Reportedly they were seeking to kill Hayrikyan. I am against postponing the elections, yet I take into account that there was a criminal case and the consequences are also of high importance''. 

Presidential candidate, leader of union for "National Self-Determination" Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot around 11:30 PM, January 31 in Tpagrichner Street, Kentron district of Yerevan. Hayrikyan got a gunshot wound to shoulders' area and has already been operated on in "St. Grigor Lusavorich" medical center.   

Criminal case under article 34-305 of Armenian Criminal Code has been already initiated over the assassination attempt against presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan. Preliminary investigation of the criminal case is implemented by joint investigation group of National Security Service and Armenian Police, led by head of the investigation department of NSS, Colonel Mnatsakan Marukyan.
