Russia fortifies military base in Armenia

YEREVAN, JANUARY 18, ARMENPRESS. Russia strengthens the combat-readiness of its allies and military bases in the South Caucasus. Alongside with the military bases in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which have common border with the Russian Federation, Russia pays a special attention to the Russian military base allocated in Armenia.

As reports "Armenpress", "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" states that on the order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin the Government is engaged in the development of an agreement about military and technical cooperation with Armenia. Previously by January 15 of the current year the new officers arrived in the Russian base 102 allocated in Gyumri Province. Their number increased twice during the period of six months. Hence there are over 5 thousand servicemen serving there.

Therefore new professionals are serving in the military bases and divisions in Armenia particularly in intelligence, air-force, anti-aircraft defense, and many realms.
