YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS: “No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten” saying is more than appropriate when it is about those Armenian men who had their role and important investment in the creation of national values and  strengthening of country’s defense and rule of law. And for the exclusive services of national significance for Armenia, Armenian men are awarded with the highest title of Armenian National Hero.

Armenpress reports that only 14 Armenians and 1 Russian man have been awarded with the title of National Hero of Armenia till now. It can be awarded for outstanding services of national importance to the Republic of Armenia in defense and strengthening of the state system and creation of important national values. The first recipient of the title was Vazgen I, His Holiness Catholicos of All-Armenians (28.07.1994), later on, the title was awarded to Viktor Hambardzumian (11.10.1994) and Alex Manoogian the president of Armenian General Benevolent Union (14.10.1994 թ.). On the order of Armenian President seven military commanders were posthumously awarded on September 20, 1996, those heroes are Movses Gorgisyan, Geghaznik Mikaelyan, Monte Melkonian, Tatul Krpeyan, Vitya Ayvazyan, Jivan Abrahamyan and Yura Poghosyan. After their assassination with other politicians in parliament in the Armenian parliament shooting Karen Demirchyan and Vazgen Sargsyan were also awarded this highest title of National Hero.

On the decree of Armenian President on May 27, 2004 Charles Aznavour and Kirk Kirkorian got the title of National Heroes. The 15th National Hero of Armenia is Nikolay Ryzhkov (05.12.2008) the great friend and supporter of Armenian nation.

Persons awarded with the highest title of "National Hero of Armenia" are given the Order of Motherland, which is carried on the left side of the chest.
