Armenian, Russian Presidents discuss bilateral relations
13:00, 23 January, 2012YEREVAN, JANUARY 23, ARMENPRESS: Meeting of President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev took place in Sochi January 23. Citing official website of Kremlin, Armenpress Armenian News Agency reports that the leaders of the two countries discussed a number of issues relating to the Armenian-Russian relations.
"Meetings in Sochi in winter has become a good tradition for us. The past year has been signified for us with the development of military-technical and economic relations," Dmitry Medvedev said. Referring to the prospects of development of relations President of Russia stressed that the parties should focus on big programs.
Besides bilateral issues, the interlocutors will also discuss a number of regional issues. "There are a number of complicated challenges existing in the region. We will continue the discussion of one of the most complicated issues of the region – the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue - when our Azerbaijani counterpart joins us," Medvedev said.
Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to his Russian counterpart for the efforts toward the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, noting that these efforts allow having more or less stable situation in the South Caucasus.
"These meetings create good opportunity for discussion of our bilateral relations. I fully share your opinion that we have successfully completed the past year. The volume of trade turnover in 2011 increased by 15% which is a remarkable result," Serzh Sargsyan said.
