Irina Barseghyan-Krpeyan’s monograph translated into English

The monograph “Tatul Krpeyan: The Self-Defense of the Getashen Sub-District in Northern Artsakh (Karabagh)” (Yerevan: Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Armenia, 2016) by Doctor of History, journalist, the wife of National Hero of Armenia, Tatul Krpeyan, Irina Barseghyan-Krpeyan, has been translated into English.

This monograph clarifies and analyzes the rise of the Armenian national liberation struggle in the Northern Artsakh Getashen sub-district, against the Armenophobic policy of Azerbaijan during the period beginning 1988 to May 1991; the undercover formation and activities of volunteer detachments; the 8-month-long self-defense carried out by Tatul Krpeyan, National Hero of Armenia; preparation and implementation of the USSR-Azerbaijani-planned military Operation Ring (“Oghak”); the reasons for the depopulation of Armenians and fall of the Getashen sub-district; the repercussions in the international community and mass media; the historical significance of self-defense.

For the first time archival materials documenting Tatul Krpeyan’s socio-political activities have been put into circulation. This monograph is intended for teaching at specialized faculties in Higher Education, for historians, political theorists, scientific circles, and for all interested in this particular period of history.
