Armenia’s herculean Simon Martirosyan wins world championship AGAIN, sets new record

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Olympic silver medalist weightlifter Simon Martirosyan has become a two-time world champion, setting a new world record and snatching gold in the 109kg weight class at the 2019 IWF World Championships in Thailand on September 26.

Martirosyan lifted 190kg and then 195kg in the snatch. He then conquered 199kg in the second try.

In clean and jerk, the Armenian weightlifter lifted 230kg, but failed to successfully list 241kg later.

He became world champion for the second consecutive year with a total result of 429kg.

Martirosyan won silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
