European Commission supports launch of Armenia-EU visa liberalization talks as soon as
possible

BRUSSELS, MARCH 6, ARMENPRESS. During his meetings with the EU leaders, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan highlighted the importance of launching the visa liberalization dialogue which remains a key priority in the bilateral relations.

“I have asked President Juncker’s personal contribution to this issue”, the Armenian PM said in Brussels during a joint press conference with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, reports Armenpress.

In his turn European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the technical terms for visa liberalization between Armenia and the EU are already approved, and now is the time for cooperation with all EU member states on the matter. “I and Commissioner Hahn are ready to assist this process as much as we can, and during our meeting with the Prime Minister we have noted that we are going to launch a heated dialogue with those member states that are consistent on this issue. But we, as the European Commission, support the visa liberalization dialogue, the launch of talks as soon as possible. This is important both for Armenia and the European Union”, Jean-Claude Juncker said.

Reaffirming the dedication to solving the visa liberalization issue, he affirmed that he wants more Armenians to visit Europe and vice versa. “We don’t want the people to perceive us only through the institutions, we want the people to travel free, Armenians freely visit Europe without a visa in order to know us better”.

Jean-Claude Juncker informed that there are 6 programs to ensure the continuation of the Armenia-EU visa liberalization and boost the ties with neighbours. “Its continuation is very important, not only states, governments, but also people should interact with each other. We are trying to do everything on this matter”, he said.
