French national injured in Armenia mountain climbing incident

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, ARMENPRESS. A French national has been injured in Armenia in what appeared to be a mountain climbing incident in the country’s Kotayk province.

Emergency authorities said in a news release that they got a 911 call at 11:05, February 22 that five mountaineers, all French nationals, have climbed a mountain near a hotel at the Aghveran resort, and that “one of the mountaineers has appeared under a snow layer in circumstances that are yet to be revealed”.  It is unclear if the cause of the incident was an avalanche.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the 4 other climbers pulled the victim out of the snow, but the latter was unconscious.

Authorities said rescuers and first responders have been dispatched to the scene.

The health condition of the victim was not immediately clear.
