Iranians arrested in Yerevan in suspicion of drug trafficking

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS. Two Iranian citizens have been arrested in Yerevan in suspicion of drug trafficking, the Investigative Committee said in a news release.

In a joint operation conducted with the organized crime unit of the Yerevan police, detectives detained a 39 year-old previously convicted Yerevan local on February 9 from the Rostovyan and Artsakh street intersection.

Two Iranian nationals, aged 39 and 48, were also detained from the same location in suspicion of narcotics trafficking.

Another Iranian, aged 60, and a taxi driver who drove him to the location, were also detained. A digital scale and more than 52 grams of methamphetamine was found in a bag belonging to the Iranian, authorities said.

The other detained Iranians carried different amounts of heroin, opium and hashish.

In addition, drugs were also found during a search of one of the Iranian nationals’ apartment.

According to the Investigative Committee, the street price for 1 gram of heroin and meth is from 200 to 300 dollars.

The 48-year-old and 60-year-old Iranian nationals have been arrested.

Authorities said they continue investigating the case.
