Greece is one of Armenia’s key partners in Armenia-EU relations – FM Nalbandian

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. Greece is one of Armenia’s key partners in the Armenia-EU relations, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian said during his speech at the Greek foreign ministry, reports Armenpress.

He said in this context the last weeks were very significant. On November 24 Armenia signed the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership agreement with the European Union. As an active member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Armenia also develops the relations with other integration formats. The minister expressed hope that such purposeful and realistic dialogue will become a driving force for boosting the cooperation in the region.

“The signing of this agreement is not the only example of Armenia-EU partnership. Over the past two years we managed to move forward in different spheres of mutual cooperation, in particular, we joined COSME, Creative Europe, Horizon 2020 projects, initialed the agreement on Common Aviation Area and signed the high-level protocol of mutual understanding on expanding the Trans-European transportation network to Armenia. We expect new initiatives at the same time attaching a specific importance to the launch of visa liberalization process. We expect the further support of our Greek partners to the Armenia-EU partnership”, FM Nalbandian said.

Talking about the opportunities to expand the Armenian-Greek economic ties, the minister said the work of the inter-governmental commission and the organization of business forums can be useful in this regard.

“Thanks to Armenia’s membership to the Eurasian Economic Union new opportunities have been created for trade and investments. Today it’s possible to enter the EAEU market worth 170 million via Armenia without any customs. Armenia has a privileged regime with the EU, US, Japan and other countries. We hope that the opportunities provided as a result of political developments will enable to conduct a fully economic cooperation with our neighbor Iran with 80 million market. In this sense the projects of Persian Gulf-Black Sea transportation and communication routes can be important”, the FM said.
