Armenian parliament speaker receives member of Belgian Senate

YEREVAN, JUNE 20, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ara Babloyan received Joris Poschet, the member of the Belgian Senate on June 20.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the parliament of Armenia, welcoming Joris Poschet in the National Assembly, Ara Babloyan noted that the Armenian-Belgian relations are developing year by year, strengthening the friendship between the two peoples. Touching upon the relations existing between Armenia and Belgium, Ara Babloyan stated that they have a great potential for development, but the mutually beneficial cooperation is not completely manifested.

The parliament Speaker highlighted the activities of the parliamentary Friendship Groups and has noted that Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group has been functioning in the National Assembly since 2000, and soon a new Group will be formed in the newly elected parliament.

Ara Babloyan expressed his gratitude for the Resolution adopted on the Armenian Genocide centenary, noting that the Armenian Genocide recognition process by Belgium was accomplished.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia stated that Armenia is going along the path of democracy development, having as a guideline fight against corruption, freedom of speech and protection of human rights.

Thanking the National Assembly Speaker for the reception, the member of the Belgian Senate Joris Poschet congratulated Ara Babloyan on being elected Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly. Mr Poschet noted that in the morning he visited Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and was impressed by the nation, who surviving the Genocide, having moral weight in the world, today is fighting for the protection of human rights and democracy.
