Armenian president highlights nuclear power plant’s operational extension program, orders 
constant supervision

YEREVAN, JUNE 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s minister of energy infrastructures and natural resources Mr. Ashot Manukyan briefed President Serzh Sargsyan on June 16 about the ongoing reforms of the energy branch, expected results, ongoing programs and opportunities of solving existing issues.

The minister notified the president about the process of regional cooperation programs, namely the construction of the Iran-Armenia and Armenia-Georgia high voltage overhead power lines, the President’s Office told ARMENPRESS.

President Sargsyan tasked to boost the works and do everything to complete the programs under the defined schedule, and emphasized that these programs have important significance for both the safety and reliability of Armenia’s energy system, and providing the country’s involvement in regional programs.

In this context, the minister reported about the large-scale modernization and renovation process of high voltage power network substation and the expected results.

The minister touched upon the nuclear power plant’s 2nd power block’s operational extension and modernization program, presented the implemented works and further actions. The president attached importance to the program and tasked to keep the matter under constant supervision and draw proper attention to the quality of works aimed at increasing security of the plant.

The minister also presented the provisions of the amended 2036 prospect development concept of the energy sector.

Ashot Manukyan briefed the President on the prospects of development of green energy in Armenia, namely the ongoing programs in the direction of solar, wind as well as solid waste processing power, as well as prospects of regional cooperation.

The President tasked to speed up the evaluation works for alternative options for households in settlements which haven’t been gasified, with a priority being bordering communities.
