President of Cyprus visits Catholicosate of Great House of Cilicia

YEREVAN, JUNE 14, ARMENPRESS. President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades visited the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, the Catholicosate told Armenpress.

The president’s delegation included ministers of foreign, internal affairs, economy and tourism, as well as other high-ranking officials.

His Holiness Catholicos Aram I welcomed the president’s visit, stating that the two peoples, churches and countries have historical ties.

“The partnership of our two peoples is based on collective values, principles and aspirations, rather than on economic interests. We have a collective cause – Cypriot Cause and Armenian Cause. These two causes pursue the same goal – justice, and have the same address – Turkey. The same genocidal Turkey massacred our two peoples and uprooted them from their own lands. We need to work together with international community to achieve justice”, Catholicos Aram I said.

He also welcomed the developing economic and diplomatic ties between Armenia and Cyprus, and expressed his warm gratitude to the president for the special care shown to the Armenian community.

The Cypriot president talked about the centuries-old friendship of the two peoples, as well as the developing partnership between Armenia and Cyprus. He remembered his visit to Armenia and the visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to Cyprus. Nicos Anastasiades welcomed Catholicos Aram I’s significant role in inter-religious relations, as well as his support to the Cypriot issue.

Aram I Catholicos and the Cypriot president also visited the Holy Martyrs Chapel at the Mother Cathedral where a pray was delivered by the Catholicos.
