“You’ll see everything in 2018”, PM Karapetyan on future tenure

YEREVAN, MAY 14, ARMENPRESS. In an interview with reporters after casting his ballot in the Yerevan City Council election, Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan commented on questions regarding continuing tenure in 2018 and his relationship with defense minister Vigen Sargsyan.

A reporter noted that previously Karapetyan had said he would like to remain in office after 2018, and asked the PM whether this is his desire or a result of agreements with the ruling party and President Sargsyan. The PM answered : “You’ll see everything in 2018’’.

Another reporter said that during the campaign for the parliamentary election, he was always saying that he will remain in office as PM, and asked whether there are doubts now. “There is no doubt, if you simply ask the same question every day, does anything change? I’ve said it two days ago, it is written in my interview”, the PM answered.

Asked to comment on media rumors whereby there is tension in relations between the PM and defense minister Vigen Sargsyan, the PM mentioned that he doesn’t even understand where the media comes up with this information. Karapetyan stressed that he has normal, business-like relations with the defense minister.

Earlier in an interview with an Austrian Radio program, asked if he is willing to remain in office as PM in 2018 and become the head of state, the PM had said : “I am ready”.

“I approach this issue very realistically. I’ve never wanted to be a PM, neither have I strived for office in government. I formulate my current readiness not as an ambition for office, but rather as a desire to change many things in our country”, he said when asked if he desires to.
