Economic results of Armenia and Kirgizstan prove correct choice, says EEC minister

YEREVAN, MARCH 28, ARMENPRES. Tatyana Valovaya, Member of the Board - Minister in charge of the Development of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission forecasts 0,9% GDP growth for 2017 in the EEU territory, by forecasting the same positive dynamics for both 2018 and 2019 as well.

“Why are we so confident that there is a trend of positive growth, because the results in industry and agriculture in 2016 prove this. The total growth of industry in EEU comprised 0,9%, however in case of separate countries in is a lot higher, for example in Armenia it grew by 6.7%, and in Kirgizstan by 4.9%. Growth has also been documented in agriculture, and the important thing is that despite the unfavorable economic conditions of 2015 growth was recorded in the field even in that year”, she said.

According to the minister, the numbers document two positive facts – that the creation of a common economic area enables to create a common trade area with minimum limitations, which itself is a great advantage, and the result of integration development, which Kirgizstan and Armenia recorded.

“This speaks about the two countries having made a very important economic choice – joining the EEU, and seeing this result, we must develop the activity of the union even more”, Valovaya said.

She also presented the results in mutual trade field, according to which Armenia reached a 53% growth.

Armenia’s trade turnover with third countries grew by 3.3%.
