Armenia parliamentary election 2017: Parties, party alliances and their slogans

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, ARMENPRESS. 9 political forces (5 parties and 4 party alliances) have submitted applications for participation in Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary election.

On February 16, the Central Electoral Commission received documents for participation from the following parties and party alliances: The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), the Armenian revival party, Free Democrats party, the Communist Party of Armenia, as well as “Yelk” (Exit), “Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanyan”, “Tsarukyan”, and Armenian National Congress (ANC)-People’s Party of Armenia alliances.

“Armenpress” presents the number of people included in the proportional lists of the parties and party alliances, as well as their slogans by which they will take part in the election.

197 people are included in the proportional list of the ruling party RPA. The list is headed by Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan, then comes Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, Arpine Hovhannisyan, Ara Babloyan, Armen Amiryan, Armen Ashotyan, Eduard Sharmazanov, Margarit Yesayan, Samvel Farmanyan, Karen Avagyan, Galust Sahakyan, Hermine Naghdalyan and etc. The RPA campaign headquarters will be coordinated by the party’s Executive Body led by President Serzh Sargsyan. The RPA hasn’t released its slogan yet. Chairman of RPA Organizational Commission Ruben Tadevosyan told “Armenpress” that the party’s slogan is already decided and it will be presented to the public when necessary. Nevertheless, the party announced that the priority in the election program will be given to increase of Armenia’s security level, economic development, human rights protection and development of democratic institutions.

170 people are included in the ARF proportional list from which 45 are non-partisan. The party list is headed by ARF faction head Armen Rustamyan, the campaign headquarters will be chaired by faction Secretary Aghvan Vardanyan. The party list starts with Aghvan Vardanyan, Davit Lokyan, Armenuhi Kyureghyan, Levon Mkrtchyan, Artsvik Minasyan, Armen Babayan, Ruzanna Arakelyan, Spartak Seyranyan, Mikayel Manukyan. The ARF’s slogan is “New beginning, fair Armenia”. The ARF members consider the upcoming election as a new beginning for building fair Armenia.

The Communist Party of Armenia has released only the first 5 names of the proportional list. The list is headed by Tachat Sargsyan, then comes Vazgen Safaryan, Gagik Manukyan, Mara Shahinyan, Hamlet Danielyan. 170 people are included in the party’s proportional list. They will take part in the election with “If party wins, people will win: Fatherland, work, socialism” slogan.

The Armenian Revival party’s proportional list includes 300 people from which 164 are also included in the party’s ranked voting lists. The party released the names of first 7 candidates. The list is headed by party leader Artur Baghdasaryan, then comes Mher Shahgeldyan, Heghine Bisharyan, Hovhannes Margaryan, Edgar Arakelyan, Marine Kocharyan, Artur Misakyan. Their slogan is “Vote for the sake of revival”.

101 people are included in the proportional list of Free Democrats party. The list is chaired by party leader Khachatur Kokobelyan, then comes Hrant Bagratyan, Styopa Safaryan, Anahit Bakhshyan, Masis Ayvazyan, Angela Khachatryan, Armen Arakelyan, Sona Minasyan, Narek Ayvazyan, Gagik Baghdasaryan. Their slogan is “We can”.

“Yelk” alliance involves “Civil Contract”, “Bright Armenia” and “Republic” parties, 120 people are included in the proportional list, from which 112 are nominated with ranked voting lists. The alliance list is chaired by Chairman of “Bright Armenia” party Edmon Marukyan, the second is Chairman of “Republic” party Aram Sargsyan, and the third is “Civil Contract” party Board member Nikol Pashinyan. Their slogan is “Election, change, victory”.

The proportional list of “Tsarukyan” alliance is led by Chairman of “Prosperous Armenia” party Gagik Tsarukyan, then comes Ishkhan Zakaryan, Naira Zohrabyan, Vardan Bostanjyan, Mikayel Melkumyan, Ararat Zurabyan, Tigran Urikhanyan, Iveta Tonoyan, Argam Abrahamyan, Vardevan Gevorgyan. 187 people are included in the proportional list from which 140 will be nominated by ranked voting lists. “Prosperous Armenia”, “Alliance” and “Mission” parties are included in the alliance. Their slogan is “Time to change and build”.

141 people are included in the proportional list of ANC-People’s Party of Armenia alliance, 131 out of which will be nominated by regional lists. The first number in the list is Levon Ter-Petrosyan, then comes Stepan Demirchyan, Levon Zurabyan, Zoya tadevosyan, Aram Manukyan, Gagik Jhangiryan, Vahagn Khachatryan, Lida Melikyan, Davit Matevosyan, Stepan Minasyan and etc. The slogan of the alliance is the following: “Peace, reconciliation, friendship”.

“Heritage”, “Unity” parties and former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan comprise “Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanyan” alliance. Ohanyan is the first number in the list, then comes Armen Martirosyan, Vardan Oskanyan, Elinar Vardanyan, Vahagn Hovhanisyan, Andranik Tevanyan, Stepan Margaryan, Susanna Muradyan, Gegham Nazaryan, Garnik Sahakyan, Raffi Hovhannisyan and etc. 148 people are included in the list. Their slogan is “Heritage, unity, victory”.
