EU concerned over Turkey’s policy: A. Ashotyan summarizes results of EPP political conference

YEREVAN, JANUARY 26, ARMENPRESS. The regional and domestic policy run by Turkey’s current leadership warns the European Union, but the European full reacting package is not developed yet, Vice-President of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan writes on Facebook, summarizing this year’s first session results of the political conference of the European People’s Party (EPP), reports “Armenpress”.

He emphasized that Armenia, in this context, remains the region’s one of the most predictable and reliable partners. Europe expects from Armenia to hold high-quality, democratic and free elections.

Ashotyan said the EPP Vice-President Antonio Tajani has been appointed President of the European Parliament. Thus, the EPP assumes the major political responsibility in the EU, heading the European Council (Donald Tusk), the European Commission (Jean-Claude Juncker) and the European Parliament.

Ashotyan thinks that the European policy enters a stage of numerous uncertainties, especially in case of the new US administration. He says the anti-Russian moods are still strong in the European leadership, but certain progress can be predicted on this issue as well. He said this year the future of the European political field will highly depend on the results of expected elections in Germany and France.

The European non-traditional political forces, the extreme right-wing and extreme left-wing forces, continue to have a political weight especially in the background of migrants issue, as well as the existing social-economic issues.

He says the situation in the countries associated with the Eastern Partnership is still not calm. The Ukrainian crisis, the victory of socialists in Moldova’s elections, split of Saakashvili’s party in Georgia hamper full implementation of the European political vector in other countries.
