Unprecedented heavy snowfalls pound Istanbul, schools shut down
10:13, 10 January 2017YEREVAN, JANUARY 10, ARMENPRESS. Heavy snowfalls have prompted the shutdown of schools and universities in 20 provinces of Turkey, including Istanbul, the Turkish Hurriyet reports.
In some districts of Istanbul, snow depth has reached 122 cm.
Local authorities banned cargo vehicles from traveling through Istanbul. 277 domestic and international flights have been cancelled in Istanbul airports. Several flights have been diverted to other airports for landing.
