YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS. Director of the Oriental Institute of NAS of Armenia, Expert on Turkish Studies Ruben Safrastyan says Donald Trump’s victory as US President can have a positive impact on the current situation in the Middle East, reports “Armenpress”.

“I hope with Trump’s election the danger of military clash between US and Russia in the Middle East, especially in Syria will be reduced. Unfortunately, the recent developments on Syria created concern in the Russian-American relations that the military clash can take place. From the other hand, we must consider the fact that the pre-election rhetoric is different from the real politics, and it is of course naïve to assess the further developments based only the rhetoric. I think we will have a chance to assess what innovations Trump will bring in the foreign policy several months later”, Safrastyan said.

He said he has expectations from the US on running more clear and decisive fight against the Islamic terrorist group.

“Nevertheless, it is necessary to consider that a man became the US President, in the face of Trump, who has passed quite a long path in the field of business, and it is necessary to teach him to be really prudent, to consider not only his interests, but also the others. In this regard, I think Trump’s policy will be based on considering the ongoing realities in different regions, rather than on the rhetoric which we saw during Obama’s presidency”, the Expert said.
