YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has made a very important announcement over the Syrian issue. Armenia must vigorously use diplomatic levers over the Syrian issue, expert in Arabic studies Armen Petrosyan told at “Armenpress” media hall, referring to the speech of President Sargsyan at the narrow-format meeting of the heads of the CIS member states.

“This shows that Armenia declares at the highest level that it follows the developments and the fate of the Armenian community, finding ways to support the local Armenians is a priority for our policy over the Syrian conflict. In this context, the President talked about Armenia’s involvement and readiness to cooperate. If practical measures are taken after the announcement, we will witness both humanitarian aid to the Armenian community and deriving security guarantees by cooperating with both Russia and Iran, as Iran is quite active in Aleppo”, Armen Petrosyan said.

According to expert in Arabic studies Sargis Grigoryan, the Armenian community has been characterized by constructive approach and has always advocated a political settlement and dialogue over the Syrian conflict. In this context the Armenian community can have its contribution and this also raises the reputation of the Armenian community.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan delivered a speech on September 16 during the narrow-format meeting of the heads of the CIS member states. He mentioned that the latest Russian-US agreements over the ceasefire in Syria will create conditions for a lasting settlement of that bloody conflict. The President praised the consistent efforts of the Russian Federation aimed at preventing the further worsening of the humanitarian crisis in Syria. He stated that the opportunities for the involvement of Armenia and the Armenian community in those processes in Syria are being discussed.
