19 reporters recognized as victims in Sari Tagh criminal case

YEREVAN, AUGUST 31, ARMENPRESS. The Special Investigations Service continues updating on the criminal case of the overnight July 29-30 Sari Tagh events.

Currently the criminal case is in the stage of collecting, verifying and evaluating evidence.

The SIS told ARMENPRESS the preliminary investigation suggests 99 citizens including 23 reporters were victims of the Sari Tagh events.

As of August 31, 74 citizens have been questioned – 63 have been recognized as victims and 11 were questioned as witnesses.

21 reporters have also been questioned, 19 of them recognized as victims, two as witnesses and two refused to testify.

According to data, 47 people sustained fragmentary injuries, 36 were subjected to physical violence and 5 sustained burns.

The preliminary list of damaged or stolen equipment of reporters has also been clarified.

At this stage of the criminal case, six people are charged for various crimes, including obstruction of press freedom.

Four are charged for mass hooliganism and are in pre-trial detention. The other two are charged for illegally obstructing the performance of reporters’ duties.

Investigation continues.
