Parliament Speaker awards Bundestag lawmaker Albert Weiler with Medal of Honor

YEREVAN, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS. Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan received on August 29 the delegation led by Germany’s Bundestag lawmaker, German-Armenian Forum President Albert Weiler.

Galust Sahakyan welcomed Weiler and highly praised his contribution to the deepening and development of inter-parliamentary and inter-governmental relations of the two countries.

Sahakyan appreciated the interaction and cooperation of the National Assembly of Armenia and Germany’s Bundestag. The Speaker welcomed the efforts of the German side aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the region, formation of an atmosphere of mutual trust and boosting regional cooperation. In this context Galust Sahakyan highlighted the visits of Bundestag lawmakers to Nagorno Karabakh.

Galust Sahakyan expressed gratitude to the Bundestag for the June 2 adoption of the Armenian Genocide bill.

“I am convinced that only by acknowledging and condemning similar crimes it will be possible to prevent their recurrence in the future”, Sahakyan said.

Albert Weiler thanked for the reception, and considered his visit to Armenia significant, after the Bundestag’s adoption of the Armenian Genocide condemnation bill. Speaking about bilateral relations the German lawmaker highlighted mutual visits of lawmakers of the two countries and deepening of relations especially in the economic area.

Touching upon regional issues, Albert Weiler noted that Germany in its turn tries to do everything for maintaining peace in the region.

The Parliament Speaker expressed certitude that the traditional warm cooperation between Germany and Armenia will continue and will develop even more with the assistance of Mr. Weiler.

At the end of the meeting, Galust Sahakyan awarded Albert Weiler with the Medal of Honor of the National Assembly of Armenia for significant contribution in the strengthening of Armenian-German ties and development of inter-parliamentary relations.
