Yervand Zakharyan: $50-60 million is not enough to relaunch “Nairit”

Yervand Zakharyan: $50-60 million is not enough to relaunch “Nairit”

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. The Government of the Republic of Armenia has not reached a final decision over the future of “Nairit” company yet. Discussions are still in process. The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia, Yervand Zakharyan, announced about this at the National Assembly during Government – NA question-and-answer session. According to him, the results of the three researches done by international organizations show that the future operation of the factory is not reasonable.  “Unfortunately, no concrete proposal by any investor about relaunching the factory has been made within the last two years. The proposals were rather wishes which did not turn into concrete proposals in the future.  The Government is ready to discuss any proposal with potential investors over relaunching “Nairit” in the future. But it needs quite serious investments, somewhere between $250-300 million. We are ready to temporarily freeze the debts”, emphasized the Minister, adding that the statements issued by some figures that it is possible to relaunch “Nairit” by $50-60 million have absolutely no grounds.

“That amount cannot ensure the working capital of “Nairit” even for 1-2 months. Therefore, the researches are grounded and about $250-300 million is required to relaunch the factory”, Yerevand Zakharyan informed, adding that dissolution or bankruptcy of the factory are not within the interests of the Government as the Executive does not have enough financial means to ensure its safety or neutralize it in the future.
