Police urges demonstrators to open Baghramyan Avenue

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS. The Police issued a statement in Baghramyan Avenue urging the demonstrators to open the avenue. “Dear citizens, you are violating the law on “Freedom of assembly”, you are disproportionately violating the constitutional rights of others. You have time to release the carriage-way. Those who will violate the law will be brought to responsibility”, “Armenpress” reports that the Police announced.

Citizens struggling against the increase of electricity tariff have again blocked Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue on September 11 evening. The participants of the demonstration marched in the direction of Baghramyan Avenue from the Liberty Square. The Police wall stopped the demonstrators at the building of Writers Union. The avenue is blocked at the moment The Police do not allow the demonstrators to move forward.

The Deputy Chief of Yerevan Police had urged the members of “No robbery” initiative to refrain from attempts to lead people to Baghramyan Avenue in the Liberty Square. He had mentioned that the Police had information that a provocateur would be among the gathered people who would call for moving to Baghramyan Avenue and the organizers of the demonstration would announce that they are fulfilling the wish of the people and are moving to Baghramyan Avenue.  “I urge you to refrain from illegal acts. The Police will no longer display tolerance and will operate exclusively within the limits of law. We urge you not to violate the law. The Police will prevent any such attempt the Yerevan Deputy Police Chief had emphasized addressing the organizers of the demonstration.

Member of “No robbery” initiative Maksim Sargsyan had assured that the citizens would not conduct illegal activities.
