YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. National Assembly RPA fraction deputy Artak Zakaryan hails the fact that importance is attached to national values in the draft Constitution. During parliamentary hearings convened by the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs the MP emphasized in his speech that there are issues where it is necessary to be guided by what the nation thinks and not by the opinion of the Venice Commission. At the same time the MP mentioned that like everyone he has some concerns. “For instance, I cannot accept the idea that there is a provision about alternative service in the Constitution of the motherland of a soldier killed defending the borders of the country. Of course, alternative service is very important but there are laws coordinating it. The issue should be settled by law and should not be attached Constitutional importance to it”, “Armenpress” reports, Zakaryan emphasized.

The MP also highlights the necessity of making adequate formulations in the Constitution aimed to strengthen Armenian traditional families. According to him, it is necessary to come up to such formulations which will not leave space for changes in legislative or sub-legislative acts as a result of which values alien to our perception of traditional Armenian family can come forward.
