35 people die from terror attack in Iraq

YEREVAN, JULY 13, ARMENPRESS. Over 35 people have been killed and more than 35 others injured in shooting, bombings, and mortar attacks in and around the capital Baghdad as well as Fallujah, a key city in the western province of Anbar. As Armenpress reports citing “presstv.ir,” the aforementioned was informed by Iraqi officials.

The Iraqi police forces said on Saturday that simultaneous explosions of three roadside bombs, targeting an army convoy just southeast of Baghdad, killed four soldiers and wounded nine others. As Armenress informs, “The Associated Press” reported this. Another bomb that went off near an outdoor market in the town of Youssifiya, south of Baghdad, also claimed the lives of two people. Three more people were also killed and five others sustained injuries in another bomb blast, which occurred near a vegetable and fruit market in Rashidiya, north of the capital.

According to the officials, gunmen claimed the lives of two people in a drive-by shooting, in the northeastern suburbs of Baghdad. In another deadly incident, 25 people were killed and over 20 others sustained injuries by mortar shells in the strategic western city of Fallujah, located between Baghdad and Anbar's provincial capital, Ramadi. “Fallujah General Hospital received the bodies of 25 people, including three children and four women, and 23 wounded, including five women and six children, as victims after their homes were subjected to mortar fire in different areas of Fallujah,” an unnamed source in Fallujah General Hospital was quoted as saying by Iraqi News agency, adding that the injuries varied between medium and critical. The northern and western parts of Iraq have experienced gruesome violence since ISIL Takfiri militants began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014. Units of Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer fighters have joined forces and are seeking to retake militant-held regions.
