YEREVAN, 14 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received today President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anne Brasseur.

 As the Public Relations and Mass Media Department of the Structure to the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, greeting the guest, the President attached importance to the cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe and mentioned that Armenia, as a CoE member state, actively participates in the activities of the organization at all levels. Serzh Sargsyan underscored the special and important place that the CoE has in the general architecture of Europe and mentioned that the standards that the CoE has set for human rights, democracy and rule of law are universally recognized outside of the borders of Europe.

 The head of state mentioned that Armenia praises the CoE’ s support to democratic reforms taking place in Armenia and introduced the President of the PACE to the process of constitutional reforms in the Republic of Armenia, as well as the need for and purpose of those reforms. The interlocutors also exchanged views on the process of negotiations over the peaceful regulation of the Karabakh issue. Anne Brasseur mentioned that she was on a regional visit to Armenia and that her goal was to become familiar with the country and the challenges that it faces.
