Anti-corruption council to be established in Armenia

YEREVAN, 17 FEBRUARY, ARMENPRESS. An anti-corruption council will be established in Armenia. “We have already discussed the issue with non-governmental organizations and the Public Council, and I hope the announcement about the establishment of the council will be made during the government’s February 19 session,” Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan informed as he presented the report on the 3rd stage of monitoring of the Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as “Armenpress” reports.

 He mentioned that over the past couple of years, the Government of the Republic of Armenia has done a tremendous job to implement the proposals for improvement of the anti-corruption policy for the eight former Soviet countries within the framework of the OECD Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan. 

 Representative of the MonitoringGroup in the member states of the Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Advisor of the Secretariat of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Olga Savran mentioned that the previous Anti-Corruption Strategy was 66% complete and that the government would apply stronger mechanisms for overseeing anti-corruption processes following introduction of the new Anti-Corruption Strategy.

 Representative of the Monitoring Group in the member states of the Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Council of Georgia Rusudan Mikhelidze noted that Armenia especially needs to improve its judiciary. According to him, the Internal Audit Committee adjunct to the Control Chamber works well, and the Control Chamber submits information to the relevant bodies properly. Alongside the recorded achievements, several problems were also recorded in Armenia. There were 22 new assignments that are being completed.
