Conservation works are ongoing in historical Ani Saint Savior Church

YEREVAN, MARCH 12, ARMENPRESS: Conservation works are continuing in Saint Savior Church, historical capital Ani, divided into two parts due to lightning hit the Church in 1954. Hakan Doghanay, the head of the tourism department in the Kars province administration told Turksih ''Anadolu'' news agency, the reinforcing and conservation works are being implemented by World Monuments Fund and Turkish Ministry of Tourism, Armenpress reports .

''The stones dropped from the Church are being numbered and indexed during the launched works, which are later scheduled to be installed in their relevant places. This is the place visited by 11 apostles of Christ. The church has been damaged due to tectonic character of the region. If Ani is included in World Heritage list all historical monuments will be become world's property,''  Doghanay stated.

Ani was submitted to be registered in the list of UNESCO World Heritage. In the words of Doghanay the Church's restoration works are scheduled to end in November 2014. Saint Savior Church is one of 21 standing historical monuments in Ani. One –domed  church erects 33 meters and 33 centimeters without its supporting columns.
