Yerevan, July 25, ARMENPRESS: The head of the OSCE Yerevan Office, Ambassador Andrei Sorokin announced a number of initiatives, which will contribute to expansion of women’s participation in the political life on the eve of the Armenian 2012-2013 local and presidential elections. As “Armenpress” was informed by the press service of the OSCE Yerevan Office, the Government of the Netherlands provides financial assistance for the implementation of the program.

“The participation of women in economic and political spheres, as well as in public life is an important factor to provide a democratic progress. Women’s positive impact in public life is undeniable”, noted Sorokin.

A number of events will be implemented within the framework of the project, including training seminars on best practices to encourage women as leaders, decision makers and candidates, to improve gender issues in policy development, capacities for effective advocacy and work with media.

“I am impressed by the determination and enthusiasm of civil society and believe that their work will help to provide women’s high participation in the local elections," mentioned the Netherlands Ambassador Pieter Jan Langenberg after a meeting with the representatives of the public organizations, which will implement the programs.
