125th anniversary of Armenian distinguished poet Misak Metsarents celebrated

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 10, ARMENPRESS: The 125th anniversary of Armenian distinguished poet Misak Metsarents was celebrated today at the National Library of Armenia. About 30 books, articles written by the poet and dedicated to him were exhibited. Deputy Director of Misak Metsarents School N146 Mariam Gevorgyan said that Metsarents was all prayer, warmth and expression of non-personal happiness.

 

“After Mkrtich Peshiktashlyants and Petros Duryan Misak Metsarents elevated the Western Armenian poetry to a new level, reflected the rich inner world of the individual living and suffering in complicated conditions of the Turkish-Armenian life at the beginning of the century,” Mrs. Gevorgyan said, adding that resisting the Turkish reaction, national and social pressures, Metsarents created an image of a hero of life and nature. “Humanity is especially typical of the outlook and creativity of Metsarents,” the deputy director aid.

 

Misak Metsarents was a leading Western Armenian poet. Misak Metsarents was born in the Pingian village of Vilayet of Kharpert, near Agn. In 1894, he moved with his family to Sepastia, where he attended the Aramian School. Until 1902, he attended the Anatolia Boarding School in Marzvan. From 1902-1905, he attended the Central School in Constantinople. However, tuberculosis forced him to leave his education.

 

The poor poet died July 4, 1908. At the age of 22, the very young poet enriched Armenian poetry with his lyrical and genuine masterpieces. In spite of his sad fate, Misak Metsarents managed to publish in his lifetime two volumes of poetry: “Tsiatsan” (Rainbow) (1907) and “Nor Tagher” (1907).
