Turkish Director Fatih Akin’s “Soul Kitchen” Presented

YEREVAN, JULY 13, ARMENPRESS: Turkish-German director Fatih Akin’s “Soul Kitchen’ film was screened today at ‘Moscow’ Cinema on the Day of the German Cinematography, announced within the framework of the ‘Golden Apricot’ International Film Festival.

Susanna Harutyunyan, art director of the festival, said the screening of the film became possible due to the three-sided cooperation between the German Embassy to Armenia, the Goethe Institute and ‘Golden Apricot’ festival. Director of Goethe Institute Werner Woll informed that several other films by Fatih Akin will be presented as well. ‘Akin won a number of famous prizes; one of his films was nominated for Oscar.

He won a special prize at Venice Film Festival,’ he said. Fatih Akin told the spectators that he was thinking about shooting such a film for a long time. ‘During that period one of my best friends Andreas Tsil died, so I decided to shoot the film, as he wanted to see it so much,’ Fatih Akin said. Soul Kitchen is a 2009 German comedy film, which tells about a young man, named Zinos, who owns the Soul Kitchen restaurant, and his girlfriend Nadine, who leaves Zinos, as the latter spends most of his time in his restaurant. In order to save his relationship, Zinos makes Illias the acting director of the Soul Kitchen and intends to travel to Shanghai. But at the airport he meets Nadine, who is now in love with a Chinese man. In Zinos’s absence Illias loses the Soul Kitchen through Poker to Neumann.

With help of physiotherapist Anna and alternative chiropractor Kemal, he is healed. Fortunately Neumann is arrested by the fiscal authorities and becomes Illias’s new fellow inmate in prison. At the end of the movie Zions realizes that he should not have sold the restaurant. When he finds out that the building of the restaurant is to be destroyed, he does his best to bring back the Soul Kitchen.
