Gyumri police detain over 60 demonstrators attempting to block Russian military base
over Lachin Corridor

GYUMRI, JANUARY 8, ARMENPRESS. Over 60 demonstrators were detained by police during a protest organized by the National Democratic Pole party outside the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri.

The National Democratic Pole said the demonstration titled “Blockade for Unblocking” is aimed at blocking the 102nd Russian Military Base “temporarily” stationed in Gyumri to demand the Russian peacekeepers – who have assumed the obligation to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the Lachin Corridor – to implement their duties.

The Lachin Corridor is blocked by Azerbaijan since December 12,2022.

Over 60 demonstrators were detained by police as they started approaching the area of the town where the base is deployed. They had earlier blocked the road leading to the base. Police said they are detaining the demonstrators for “violating the law on assembly” and “failure to obey a lawful order of the police”.
