Armenia can benefit from India’s rapid progress to increase defensibility – deputy FM

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS. In the developing new world order in conditions of rapid political, economic and technological transformations Armenia and India need each other more than ever before, therefore it is necessary to find new models for development of bilateral relations, develop ways to further enhance the mutual agenda and coordinate actions in all possible platforms and areas and ensure mutual prosperity and peace, speakers at the forum Armenia-India New Impetus to Millennial Relations said.

The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ashot Saghyan said India has always been a great friend for the Armenian people, and the growing and developing mutually-beneficial cooperation in various areas is a testament to that. In this regard the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences is carrying out rather active work under the auspices of the foreign ministry.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan said that over the course of the past 30 years of diplomatic relations the friendly ties between Armenia and India have firmly developed in all areas, including political, economic and humanitarian.

“The deepening and advancement of the comprehensive relations with India is among the priorities of the Armenian foreign policy,” he said. “It is joyous to see that with its viable democracy and dynamic economy India is having progress and significant achievements in various sectors, which contributes to its growing reputation in the global arena.”

Safaryan added that in the recent period active work was done between Armenia and India in key areas such as defense and regional security, international transport and connections, tourism, trade, agriculture and science, healthcare and IT.

“Cultural cooperation also has big importance for deepening the ties between the two peoples. We have rich cultural heritage in India, which is preserved with care through the efforts of the government of India, for which we express our gratitude to the government of India,” Safaryan said. There still is huge untapped potential for boosting economic relations, trade, utilize investment opportunities and ties between people, he added. 

“Armenia can truly benefit from India’s rapid progress for increasing its defensibility and developing its economy. In conditions of rapidly changing international trade and shipment routes and possibilities we must think in direction of developing imports and exports to the south. We have a lot of work to do in this regard,” Safaryan said.

International relations experts, diplomats and others from Armenia, India, the US and other countries also delivered remarks at the event.
