Situation in Jermuk worrying, but hotels started operating – Economy Minister

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Economy of Armenia Vahan Kerobyan has recently visited Jermuk resort town after the latest large-scale attack of Azerbaijan, to get acquainted with the situation.

“The situation is worrying, however I must say that hotels in Jermuk have started operation. In the night of September 13, as Mayor Vahagn Arsenyan says, there was no free place [in the town], but it’s clear that the situation is not that same now. Nevertheless, we see that life is activating both there and in other places. The Jermuk ropeway does not operate because spare parts still need to be imported there and renovation is also necessary. There was no free place in Jermuk before September 13, now maybe the 10-15% of the hotels are occupied by tourists”, the minister told reporters.

As for the economic damages caused to Armenia as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression, the minister said that the settlements bombarded by Azerbaijan do not have a great participation in Armenia’s economy, but added that this, in general, affected the overall business environment, because many events have been cancelled, some investors have started to delay their programs. But the minister called on all investors not to stop or delay their plans.

The minister also said that the government has allocated funds to the governorates for the quick restoration of that settlements.

“Today the governorates are engaged in activating the environments. We in our turn are planning programs to boost the tourism environment”, Vahan Kerobyan said.
