Broad circle of people have insights into negotiations process, says Pashinyan

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he’s always been ready to present details from the negotiations process and that a rather broad circle knows about these details.

The PM made the remarks while speaking in an interview with Public Television, when asked to comment on former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s proposal on jointly finding solutions, whether or not he is ready to meet with the former presidents and present details from the talks.

“We must understand what is being meant, because if there is such context that the government is unable to take on the responsibility and it needs help to bear responsibility, then I can say that the government and personally myself well realize the responsibility we have for the fate of the country and we are ready to take on this responsibility. And we’ve received this responsibility from the people,” the PM said.

The PM added that a rather broad circle of persons has detailed insights into the negotiations process.

“For example our team is aware, we are a parliamentary country and the Civil Contract caucus entirely knows it, the Security Council is also aware. Moreover, the authorities of Nagorno Karabakh are also entirely aware. Overall, the Nagorno Karabakh president hasn’t been unaware of any word I’ve spoken or any sentence I’ve heard at any negotiation. He knows. I know that in turn he is notifying at least the Security Council, and basically also the former high-ranking officials,” the PM said.

He said that a part of the persons who attended the meeting hosted by the Catholicos (meeting between former presidents) is entirely aware of the negotiations process, and the other part always had the opportunity to do so.

“Why? Because I’ve always expressed readiness to entirely present the negotiations, particularly to the parliamentary opposition. Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan are leaders of two parliamentary caucuses and they refused to receive this information. Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s party also refused. I am sharing the information also with the non-parliamentary opposition and once there was an invitation to Ter-Petrosyan’s Armenian National Congress, but they refused to participate in that format,” the PM said.

“….Imagine if I am disclosing all details to such a broad circle of people, this means that I am ready to directly and openly present it to our people. Why am I not doing it? Because diplomatic ethics doesn’t allow me to reveal all details.”
