Armenian, Estonian Presidents meet in Japan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 22, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, who is in Japan on a working visit, met with President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, the Armenian President’s Office told Armenpress.

The two Presidents talked about the opportunities to expand the mutually beneficial cooperation and agreed that there is a great potential and the two countries can successfully cooperate in a number of areas. President Sarkissian said Estonia’s past path and experience in different spheres can be interesting and useful for Armenia.

The sides touched upon the Armenia-EU agenda, in particular the cooperation within the Eastern Partnership. Highlighting the need to promote contacts between the peoples the Armenian President attached importance to the intensification of actions directed for visa liberalization to the EU countries.

The Estonian President was interested in the Armenian President’s position regarding the ongoing developments and the situation in Syria’s north. President Sarkissian said Armenia carefully follows the ongoing processes in the region and tries to contribute to the humanitarian initiatives. The President expressed concern over the current situation and stated that the international community should take practical actions to stop Turkey’s operations and protect the rights of the Syrian citizens, including the national minorities along the border with Turkey.
