Armenian FM holds meeting with European Commission’s delegation

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on September 19 received the delegation led by Katarína Mathernová, Deputy Director-General – Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, the Armenian foreign ministry told Armenpress.

Welcoming the delegation members to Armenia, the Foreign Minister highlighted that Armenia attaches great importance to the high-level political dialogue with the EU and the comprehensive partnership framework. The minister said Armenia values the EU’s promotion to the country’s development agenda, constant and consistent support to the strengthening of the democratic institutions.

Both sides highlighted the role of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) as a key impetus for the development of Armenia’s relations with the EU and its member states. The sides exchanged views on the ongoing actions directed for the roadmap for the implementation of the CEPA.

FM Mnatsakanyan and Mrs. Mathernová also touched upon the Armenian government’s reforms agenda, the country’s foreign policy priorities, as well as Armenia’s views on international and regional issues. As a priority goal of the government the Armenian FM mentioned the ongoing reforms in the judicial field, stating that Armenia highly valued the expert support provided by international partners in this field.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Eastern Partnership, the meeting participants expressed confidence that the EP, which is based on common values and principles, is a good platform to develop and expand the mutual partnership between the EU and the EP countries. In this regard the sides exchanged views also on the development vision of this initiative.
