Armenian healthcare minister elected member of WHO Standing Committee

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. The elections of the new Director of World Health Organization’s Regional Committee for Europe and the membership of the WHO Standing Committee were held today during the 69th session of the Committee in Copenhagen.

7 countries, including Armenia, have submitted applications for the membership to the WHO Standing Committee. As a result of the voting of representatives of 53 WHO member states, Armenia, in the person of healthcare minister Arsen Torosyan, has been included in the WHO Standing Committee which will operate in the next three years.

The election of the Director of WHO Regional Committee for Europe was also held, and 6 countries – Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Turkey, Armenia and Germany, have nominated their candidacies. Based on the voting results, the representative of Belgium was elected as the new Director of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.
