YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 4, ARMENPRESS. A tomb dating back to the Ptolemaic era (305-30BC) with fifty well preserved mummies inside has been found by Egyptian archaeologists, the antiquities ministry of the country reported.

The mummies were discovered in four separate burial chambers 9m deep in the Tuna-El-Gebel site in Minya, south of the capital city of Cairo. 12 of the 50 mummies were children. Some of the mummies were wrapped in linen, others were inside stone coffins or wooden sarcophagi.

Authorities said the identities of the mummies are unknown, but they are likely to have held important positions.
