Three patients in Armenia to undergo bone marrow stem cell transplantation

YEREVAN, JUNE 14, ARMENPRESS. Three patients are undergoing pre-surgery procedures in Armenia for bone marrow stem cell transplantation.

Smbat Daghbashyan, director of the Yolyan Hematology Center told ARMENPRESS the previous transplantations in April were successful.

“In terms of how many transplantations will be conducted in the year, the necessity will show”, he added.

The first two bone marrow stem cell transplant surgeries in Armenia were conducted on April 10 jointly by the Yolyan Center’s team and Nicolaus Kroger – head of the transplant department of Hamburg’s Eppendorf clinic.

Nicolaus Kröger is a Professor and Medical Director of the Department of Stem Cell.

60 patients yearly require transplantation in Armenia.
