YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS. Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov assesses the announcement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saying that Nagorno Karabakh conflict is not Azerbaijan’s internal issue as clear and felicitous, RPA spokesperson, Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov told the reporters after Executive Body meeting of the party. He mentioned that Lavrov clearly hinted that it is not Azerbaijan that should take decisions. “By this announcement Sergey Lavrov clearly dismissed the Azerbaijani fiction that Nagorno Karabakh can have autonomy only inside Azerbaijan. He said what the Armenian side has said for years”, “Armenpress” reports Sharmazanov saying.

He detailed that the President of Armenia has mentioned several times that in order to record progress in NK conflict settlement process, it is necessary to eliminate the root-causes, not the consequences. Sharmazanov clarified that the cause is that Azerbaijan does not want to and has no political will to recognize the implementation of the people of Nagorno Karabakh of their right to self-determination.

According to Sharmazanov, Lavrov’s announcement brought some clarity in that context. He hoped that the Russian side will continue holding that position and expected similar announcements from the other two Minsk group Co-chair states.
