YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Official Ankara reacted on the European Parliament’s decision to freeze Turkey’s EU membership talks, Hurriyet reported.

Turkish Minister for European Affairs Omer Çelik talked about the issue by stating:

“The proposal is unilateral, it doesn’t correspond to reality, it is not democratic. We consider the adopted decision as nothing, it is not a decision to take in serious”, Çelik said.

The European Parliament adopted the proposal on freezing Turkey’s EU membership talks on November 24. 479 MEPs voted in favor of the proposal, 37 were against. 107 MEPs abstained.

Although this is non-binding proposal, it is an important message to the EU and the leadership of the Union’s member states. It is expected Turkey’s membership issue will be discussed at EU leaders’ upcoming summit in December.
