Armenia’s President has telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin

Today, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan had a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The Department of Mass Media and Public Relations of the President’s Staff of the Republic of Armenia informed Armenpress that Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin discussed a number of current issues related to the Armenian-Russian bilateral cooperation, as well as issues related to international and regional agenda. The sides reacted on the process of work activities carried out after Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union. The Presidents exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis and the ways to get out of that. In that context the interlocutors reacted on the situation created after the referendum in the Crimea and recorded that it is the consecutive example of the realization of the right to self-determination through the free will. At the same time they stressed the importance of devotion to the norms and principles of international law, first of all, to the UN Charter.

The leaders of the countries also discussed the process of the settlement of Karabakh conflict and the steps taken to that direction. Armenia’s President highly appreciated Russia’s activity as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair country and stressed the importance of joint efforts of the Co-Chairs aimed at peaceful settlement of the conflict. Serzh Sargsyan reiterated Armenia’s readiness to continue joint work activity with OSCE Minsk group Co-Chairs towards the settlement of the conflict.

The telephone conversation took place on the initiative of the Armenian side.
