Number of Armenians decreased in Egypt

YEREVAN, AUGUST 26, ARMENPRESS. Egypt gets down to envisaging the map of future. The member of the Armenian Diocesan Council in Egypt Suren Bayramyan stated this in a conversation with "Armenpress". Also he noted that currently the situation is calm. Among other things Suren Bayramyan underscored: "The Armenians were not hurt in the clashes in Egypt. The Armenian structures and churches were not damaged as well. Notwithstanding, it's noteworthy that there is no negative attitude towards the Armenians in Egypt." In addition Bayramyan touched upon the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition by Egypt and stated that after the official refutation of the news nothing special aroused in this respect, but from time to time the media reflects upon this issue. According to him the number of Armenians in Egypt decreased from 7 thousand to 5 thousand.

Currently there are also over 400 Armenian citizens residing in Egypt, a part of them has dual citizenship. In a conversation with "Armenpress" the Press Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Balayan stated that no citizen of the Republic of Armenia turned to the Armenian diplomatic representation in Egypt asking for the assistance to leave the country.
