Armenian President receives awardee of President’s 2016 Prize for global contribution to IT 
sector

 YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received on November 8 Inventor and Executive-Director of Open-Root, world famous French scientist and one of the creators of the internet Louis Pouzin who has received Presidential Award of Armenia 2016 for contribution to global IT sector. 

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Armenian President’s Office, the President of the Republic greeted the prominent scientist and his wife, and stated that the Prize of the President of Armenia awarded to Louis Pouzin symbolizes the gratitude of the Armenian people to those who move the world forward and due to the talent of whom the West advanced the East technologically during only 500 years. “This prize pursues also another goal, which is to draw the attention of our youth to those people who have made successes, so as to be exemplary for them. We want to show them that it is possible to become world famous, live a welfare live and enjoy respect thank to knowledge”, President Sargsyan said.

Louis Pouzin noted that throughout his life it has been a pleasure for him to work with people who are confident in their steps. “I am convinced there are many such people in Armenia with whom it is possible to work and elaborate projects. My goal is to keep in touch with them regularly and maybe due to this we will be able to work together and implement new projects”, Louis Pouzin said in a meeting with the Armenian President.

After the meeting, a reception was delivered at the Presidential Palace in honor to Louis Pouzin.

Inventor and Executive-Director of Open-Root Louis Pouzin received Presidential Award of Armenia 2016 for contribution to global IT sector in October. “We pay a special attention to high technological and innovative solutions, and development of knowledge-based economy and in this context we attach great importance to the projects implemented by public-private sector cooperation. I am convinced that the award for the contribution to global IT sector will raise Armenia’s reputation as a country that has announced IT sector a priority branch of economic development”, read the congratulatory statement of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on October 28.

President of the Award Committee Armen Gevorgyan told the reporters that the award ceremony has become a good and important tradition and all the awardees are good friends of Armenia. “Years will pass and legends of world prominence will come to Armenia to receive the award, who will raise the reputation of Armenia as a country relying on science”, he said.

Global Award of the President of the Republic of Armenia for Outstanding Contribution to Humanity through IT (Global IT Award) was established by the July 6, 2009 Presidential decree. The Award consists of a medal, a certificate and a trophy 
• Preliminary selection of the candidates nominated for the Global IT Award is conducted by the Award Committee,
• Winners are selected by the Selection Panel,
• The Award is financed based on the cooperation agreement between Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, Synopsys Armenia CJSC and a sponsor.

Louis Pouzin has acquired an international reputation as an expert in computer communications and networks. Most of his career has been devoted to the design and implementation of computer systems, such as CTSS, the first large time sharing system at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or the CYCLADES computer network and its datagram packet switching network, from which TCP/IP was derived.

Besides his experience leading teams of top professionals, he is known internationally for his participation in early network standardization activities within IFIP, ISO and CCITT, and his numerous publications, many of which have become educational material in network courses. As a lecturer, he is especially appreciated for presenting complex subjects in clear and understandable terms.

He graduated from École Polytechnique in Paris. He is past chairman of IFIP-TC-6 (data communications). He has published more than 80 articles and a book on computer networks. Among awards he has received: IFIP Silver Core, ACM SIGCOMM, IEEE Internet, and French Légion d'Honneur.

Presently he is Project Director with EUROLINC, an association promoting the use of native languages on the Internet.
