Cases of violations of children’s rights to be prevented in Armenia

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 4, ARMENPRESS. UNICEF Armenia and the Ombudsman’s Office signed a cooperation agreement on October 4.

According to the agreement, the two structures will take joint efforts for responding to the cases of violations of children’s rights in Armenia.

 “Starting from June 2016 a department of the protection of the rights of children has been established in the Ombudsman’s administration, the major task of which is to monitor the situation related to the protection of children’s rights in Armenia, as well as to analyze the legislation”, Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan said, reports “Armenpress”.

UNICEF Representative in Armenia Tanja Radocaj said UNICEF exists for implementing lasting reforms. These reforms enable the children to develop.

“We believe that every child has a right to normal childhood free from violence and abuse. We are confident our partnership will contribute to strengthening the dialogue on the rights of children in Armenia”, she said.

Within the framework of the cooperation it is planned to develop a child-centered mechanism for appealing the Human Rights Defender which will help to more professionally respond to cases of violations of children’s rights. The partners will also carry out staff trainings on children’s rights, monitoring and reporting the cases of violations, interviewing the children who have been subjected to violence.
